Introducing pacifier to Bryant

We had difficulty to make Bryant sleep last Saturday night. We then decided to give him pacifier for first time. The pacifier just worked like magic, it managed to soothe Bryant and get him to sleep within minutes. I was so amazed!

1st time changing diaper for Bryant

Hooray! I have finally done this without help from anyone.

Bryant has been born for almost 3 weeks. Though I have been desiring to change diaper for him, I did not have the courage to do so. I was so worried that I might not be able to do a good job and that would make him cry. That is why I always leave the task to the confinement auntie.

However, I know I cannot run away from this forever. I must face it one day. Hence, I decided to try while I can still seek help from confinement auntie if BB cries.

My next challenge should be bathing the BB. As I am still within confinement period and not supposed to touch tap water, I shall only do it after my confinement. Nevertheless, I have been observing how confinement auntie bathe the BB everyday.

Giving birth to BB is a big sacrifice for women. Giving up their jobs for family is an even bigger sacrifice. Hopefully, all husbands respect and appreciate your wives. Cheers to all mommies. Wishing us a happy mother's day in advance!

Bryant is hospitalized

My poor boy is having rather serious jaundice as such doctor has advised to admit him to hospital for treatment. :(

He admitted since yesterday evening. I rushed over to hospital to see him and hug him. My poor little boy has to be separated with daddy and mommy for 2 days while he is only 5 days old. Mommy is heart broken. Though everyone keeps saying jaundice is normal for most babies, I can tell you that no mother will be alright when we have to leave our babies in hospital and go home ourselves. I teared non-stop last night.

No news from hospital yet. Hopefully, baby Bryant's condition is under control now. I might make a trip to hospital to see him later.

Bryant, be strong and recover soon! Daddy and mommy love you. I have sent the irresponsible confinement aunty away. You will be well taken by someone else when you are home. Mommy feels so sorry to entrust you to wrong person. Please forgive mommy.

Sleeping prince - Bryant Tan

All newborns sleep a lot, mine too. Seeing him sleeping soundly is my greatest happiness now. I don't think of other things except him during my maternity leave. I must enjoy our quality time.

Full term

It's 37th week! This means my baby is full term now and it also means I might deliver anytime from now. Omg! I am not ready yet...

I almost got everything my baby and myself need. However, I am still not sure if that's all we need. I am so worried that something important has slipped my mind and shall end up with chaos after baby is born.

Another thing that I worry the most is my work. I am still actively involved at work. I actually plan to commence my maternity from 2nd May which is just a few days before my EDD. Well, I am uncertain if my baby is patient enough to wait till then. As such, I set a deadline for myself to finish upmost pending cases and queries by end of this week or latest mid of next week.

The waiting game is torturing coz you won't know when it's gonna happen. I am anxious every day and night. Whenever I feel pain with my stomach, I get panic. I guess most 1st time moms experience the same too.

Sometimes, I imagine how my life will be after baby is born. Will I be a good mom? Will I be able to breastfeed? Can I cope with my baby alone after the confinement lady leaves me? Who will my baby resemble? Then again, all these are not so important. After all, I just pray that my baby will be healthy and happy.

Packing hospital bag

I thought this should be an easy task. But, it is not. I have checked a few websites regarding what to pack for my hospital bag. There are different versions. Some advise to pack a lot more things than another. I get confused now! Anyway, I always apply this principle: More is better than less.

So, how many bags do I need? One for labour, one for baby and one for myself? Or all in one? What does the hospital provide for my stay? I guess I better check with experienced mommies.

Preparation @ week 35

Shopping list is almost 85% done. Big items have been settled.

Laudry for baby clothings and beddings have been done too.

Confinement lady has been confirmed.

I still need to arrange for spring cleaning for the house by mid April.

Clearing the fridge is also needed for storage of expressed breast milk.

Last but not least is to prepare my hospital bag.

Bonus time again

Woo.....This is a yearly big event!

Now, people are speculating about how good/bad the bonus will be. When they receive it, people will complain about the bonus they receive. Some will remain silent if their bonuses are within or beyond expectations. Thereafter, there will be people resigning and some people being low morale. Managers will have headache then coz they need to pacify/motivate their people though themselves are equally disappointed with the bonus.

Having been in banking industry for so long, I am used to these. People come and go, smart people will flow to whenever that can pay them better. This is human nature.

I have not thought of leaving the bank, however I might opt for a change in role after my maternity leave. I just can't dedicate too much time for work after my baby is born. I will need to spend a lot more time at home then. A stable and regular-hour job will be most suitable for mommies. I have kind of dropping hint to management about my intention, hopefully there will be good arrangement for me when I am back from maternity.

Baby @ week 33

Just finished check up. Baby weighs 2kg, normal. He is in right position for natural delivery. Gynae told me to prepare mentally for labour pain. He also advised me to exercise more from now onwards coz it will be helpful for labour. We will follow doctor's choice to deliver at Thomson Medical Centre. I have one worry less then as I was still considering if should choose Mt. Alvernia hospital since some of my friends highly recommend it.

Now I should really focus on my and my baby's well-being.

Father-to-be

I am utterly disappointed with my hubby. As a father-to-be, he has done very little for our baby. He can't be bothered to talk to baby and read story for baby. He is also not reading enough to understand what's pregnancy and labour about. The dos and don'ts during pregnancy, the support his preggy wife needs from him, how to take care of newborn etc. I have been talking to him few times about my expectation but he simply ignore my feedback.

It's now 33 weeks! He is still like nothing big is going to happen in 7 weeks later. I really lose hope in him. People always say he is a good husband, I wonder what people know about him to make that judgement.

He always doesn't like when I say this is my baby coz he feels I should say this is our baby. Please then make it ours!!! My baby has feeling now, he knows who have been caring for him all these while.

Please do something to deserve to be called daddy.

Sleeping prince

My nephew is a sleeping prince. He is only 9-day old and is currently weighing 4.5kg, about 900 gram heavier than his first born weight. Babies who sleep more gain weight faster than those who don't. Hope my precious little one also sleeps more next time.

Cute babies

How I wish my baby will be as cute as them.

33 weeks...

7 more weeks to go....We will welcome our precious son in 7 weeks. Ooo...

Suddenly, I made up my mind to hire confinement lady instead of getting my MIL to help. Perhaps, the decision was too last minute that my hubby felt upset with me coz he has arranged the schedule with his parents earlier. From my sis's experience, I realized how important a confinement lady is to new parents. It's truly helpful to have such experienced expert around to ease our stress and we can also learn from her about how to take care of our newborn. Moreover, confinement lady also can help with baby laundry and housework but I would not dare to request these from my MIL.

I am looking for confinement lady now but not sure if can find one in such a short notice as there are really many babies born in year of dragon. Now I realize why people keep saying it will be competitive for dragon babies. Parents gonna fight for vacancy in hospital ward, confinement lady, infant care and childcare services, primary and secondary school admissions etc.

I will be having gynae appointment again next Mon. Hopefully, baby is healthy and we can get to see his face through 3D scan. We have missed 3 chances since baby is always not with right position/angle. Hello baby, please don't disappoint mommy & daddy again, ok?

Never expected this

It was a joyous event last Friday. However, due to insensitive act of some colleagues, thing has become quite unpleasant now. I believe that none of them meant to be offensive. Hopefully, they would learn their lesson and do no repeat same mistake next time.

Mom-to-be @ 25 weeks

I felt so 'motherly' when I carried my cousin's 2-mth old baby gal. How will it feel like when I get to carry my own in 3 mths time?

Baby cot

We just added a new item for our baby, his baby cot with latex mattress. In consideration of safety issue, we decide to put him in baby cot than sleeping with us in same bed. The cot will be placed beside my bedside, so it should be rather convenient for me to wake up at night to breastfeed him.

4 more months to go...

2012 is finally here!

I just realized that I am going to due in 4 months time. Wow, I will see my baby in just 4 months time!! So exciting yet terrifying. The labour pain is definitely scary for first time mom s. Though my mom told me the pain is bearable, I am still not convinced. I think most probably I will rely on epidural if I get to opt for natural delivery.

I have started shopping for my baby. His first 3 months clothing are more or less settled. Yet, we still have a lot more stuffs to buy, like cot, playpen, diapers, milk powder, milk bottles, breast pump, bottle sterilizer etc.

I am definitely in another chapter of my life now. Nowadays, female clothings, shoes, bags and accessories don't attract me anymore. I am more keen to shop for baby stuffs. Now then I realized why my mom always have my youngest brother is her mind whenever she shops. It's maternity instinct.
